THE PEERS FAMILY |
The Peers family appear to have been rooted in Cheshire. I am having trouble confirming
the origins of the head of the family tree at present. He is Samuel Peers and he married Elizabeth. It appears from the information obtained in the 1841 census, that Samuel
married Elizabeth/Betsey Millington on 22nd December, 1819 at Neston. In the 1841 census of Eastham, Samuel
is an agricultural labourer and he and Elizabeth are living with John Millington (presumably Elizabeth's father) with daughters Elizabeth and Martha (both 15) and sons John (12) and William (8). These latter two sons fit in with the births of John and William found
in the Eastham parish records. According to parish records and census data, Samuel and Elizabeth had the following children: Elizabeth Peers b abt 1826 Martha Peers b abt 1826 Mary Peers bp 27.11.1826 Eastham (d before 1841) John Peers (Labourer/Carter) bp 11.11.1829 Eastham m 27.12.1848 Neston to Jane Messom (b 1828 Buckley, Flint) d aft 1901 Maria Peers bp 29.9.1831 Eastham (died before 1841?) William Peers bp 17.5.1833 Eastham We know nothing about when or where Samuel and Elizabeth may have died. When John married Jane Messom in 1848, Samuel was listed as labourer and presumably still alive. John Peers, born in 1829 at Eastham married Jane Messom, daughter of John Messom, on 27th December, 1848 at Neston. They were both living in Hargrave at the time. In 1851 they were living at 47 Peter Street, Liverpool (HO107/2160), where John was a dock labourer with an infant son, John. Their children were: John Peers (Gas Fitter) b 1849 Frodsham m 1867 Birkenhead to Annie Lemmon Elizabeth Peers bp 4.1.1852 Liverpool St Peter d before 1861 Samuel Peers (Blacksmith) b 1854 Birkenhead-( Is Samuel the one living at 2 Green Lane , Tranmere in 1881, a bricklayer's labourer, married to Sarah A Hope (1876), with children Margaret, Ellen and Robert? If anyone knows please email me.) William Robert Peers (Decorator) b 1858 Birkenhead m 1881 Birkenhead to Annie Tremble d 8.4.1922 Tranmere (bur Landican ref 6981) Charles Ralph Peers (Porter) b 1861 Birkenhead m 8.12.1884 Tranmere to Lucy Matilda Larner d 1.1.1913 Royal Infirm. Liverpool Susannah Peers b 21.12.1867 Birkenhead m 26.3.1894 Tranmere to Henry Evans d 9.1.1906 Tranmere When Elizabeth was born in 1852 they were living in Highfield Street, Liverpool. By the time of the 1861 census they were living at 2 Ruabon Street, Tranmere with children John, Samuel and Robert; no sign of Elizabeth. In 1867 when Susannah was born they lived at 65 Thomas Street, Birkenhead. In 1871 they were living at Seafield House, New Chester Rd, Tranmere where John was now a cart proprietor and in 1881 they were at the same address, John a team owner. By 1901 Jane had died and John was living with his daughter Susannah and her husband Henry Evans at 20 Seabank Cottages, Birkenhead (RG13/3398). he was 71 years old, a widower and noted as a Master Carter. His son John Peers, born at Frodsham in 1849, appears to have married an Annie Lemmon in 1867. According to the 1881 census, when he was living at 16 Beaconsfield Rd, Tranmere (RG11/3585 / 24/41) he was a Gas Fitter aged 31 and his wfie Annie was a dressmaker aged 30 and born in Liverpool. They had three children: Beatrice Peers b 1872 Birkenhead William Peers b 1877 Birkenhead Herbert Peers b 1880 Birkenhead William Robert Peers was born in 1858 at Birkenhead. He appears to have married Annie Tremble in early 1881. On the 1881 census they are both aged 24 and living at 39 Cobden Street, Tranmere (RG11/3585/96/17), William being painter and paperhanger. They had no children at that time. However by 1901 they had had two daughters: May Peers b 1888 Birkenhead Beatrice Peers b 1891 Birkenhead There may have been others. Annie also appears to have died by 1901. William died on 8th April, 1922 at Tranmere is is buried at the Landican cemetry. Charles Ralph Peers, born in 1861 at Birkenhead, was still living with his parents in 1881 at Seafield House. He married Lucy Matilda Larner on 8th December, 1884 at Tranmere. He was a porter and they had two children: Ralph B Peers b 1886 Birkenhead m 1907 to Mary Farrel d before 1918 in USA Sydney Peers b 1896 Birkenhead In 1901 Charles was a cotton warehouse porter aged 37. His son Ralph B Peers married Mary Farrel in early 1907 and they had a daughter Gladys. In 1910 Charles and Lucy went to New York, although they must have returned. Charles died 1st January, 1913 at the Royal Imfirmary, Liverpool and then later on 12th April, 1913 Lucy, now a widow, emigrated to Florida to see her son Ralph. Ralph himself died before 1918 when Mary returned to Birkenhead and remarried a William Higgins. |
Susannah Peers was born on 21st December, 1867 at 65 Thomas Street, Birkenhead. She married Henry Evans on 26th March, 1894 at Tranmere. Henry and Susannah had two sons: Charles Ralph Evans b 1902 Tranmere William Robert Evans b 8.12.1903 Tranmere In 1901 Susannah and Henry were living 20 Seabank Cottages, Birkenhead (RG13/3398) with John Peers, aged 71, Susannah's father. .
